Waiting

In my last post I had mentioned that our manager had transferred to another hotel and now we have this traveling General Manager.  He's pretty cool but I feel lost because he hasn't really brought the staff together and let them know what's going on.  Since we have hit our dead period, business has been kind of slow but yesterday at work was sort of busy.  There hasn't been any weird ones lately but yesterday there was a guy that came in, he wasn't a guest but he asked me if we sold stamps which I thought was kind of weird. Why would a hotel sell stamps?? I never knew hotel sold stamps much less an economy hotel like us. Now we're just waiting on our new general manager which is about time because our hotel has been kind of going down.  I don't know about sales but our house keepers have been doing a bad job and some front desk workers haven't been doing their work either.  We finally hired one but she isn't suppose to be coming till the first week of December so we'll just have to wait. 

Dead Period

 This is the time of the year where our business slows down.  I think it goes for all hotels here in Pittsburg although, for some strange reason all the hotels in Pittsburg or the bigger ones like Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn are all sold out today.  There's been a recent trend the past two months where those two hotels and even the Lamplighter Inn have been sold out starting on Tuesdays and leaving on Thursdays.  I think they are either conventions or contruction workers but it just seems odd for contructions workers to come on Tuesday and not on Monday.  Today we aren't full or anything but I have been gettting alot of phone calls.  There's only been a couple of new people checked in including one that looks like Jerry Sandusky.  If you don't who he is, he's a former Defensive Coordinator for the Penn State University football team and he's recently been accused of having inappropriate relations and other things with little boys.  Other than that guest looking like him, there hasn't been anything interesting going on around here.

Weird Day

Today at work was kind of weird.  We recently lost our Manager and his last day was yesterday.  When I say lost I mean he transferred to another hotel not that he died.  I didn't get a chance to say good bye which I don't know how to feel about that.  He really did a good job but sometimes he treated me like a little kid or somone who had just started working there.  But I guess I can't complain, besides that he let me do whatever I wanted as long as the job was getting done.  Today we had the interim GM and he didn't really say anything to me so I don't know if he's going to be a strict manager or not but I guess we'll have to see and wait.  There were only 4 guests that checked into the hotel today so there isn't really much to talk about in that aspect.

Not so Smart Things happen

Last time I worked was pretty interesting at the hotel.  This one guest had shut the bathroom door and couldn't open it because he had locked it from the inside.  The thing about our bathroom doors is that they don't have a key entrance, they just have a little hole, so I had to use my pick locking skills (which I have none) to use.  I was messing with the door for atleast 15 minutes and I couldn't get it and then I left the pick with the guest and came down to the front desk to find something and 5 minutes later the guest came down and said he got it open.  What a relief...

Soccer.Com

For my website as mentioned before, I want to talk about the Pittsburg State University Soccer Club.  This is to ensure the growth and success of the club and eventually and hopefully this will lead Pitt State to make soccer a collegiate sport.  The link I will provide is a link to a soccer aparrel and shoe store.  If you want to play like the best, I think it would be necessary for 1. Get good shoes that will allow you to play in any type of field (hard turf, soft grass, tall grass, astro turf) and 2. you want to get the right soccer shorts, shin guards, etc... to help the team look like a professional or a legitimate intercollegiate team.  Here's the link http://www.soccer.com/ there's alot of cool stuff in there and reasonably priced so enjoy.

Super 8 dumb stuff

Here is my 2nd blog about my job at the Super 8.  Last week a guest checked in to the hotel and then half an hour later looked himself out of the bathroom.  The thing about our bathrooms is that they only have locks in the inside and theres only a little hole in the outside that you have to try and pick.  First of all I dont know how he would lock himself out because he was the only person in the room and there wouldnt a necessity to lock the bathroom door. WHOSE GOING TO COME IN? but after about 30 minutes of playing with it, we finally got it to unlock.  That concludes my little segment I like to call "DUMB STUFF" while working at the SUPER 8.

Super 8

My blog for this class will involve the guests that check in to the hotel I work at here in Pittsburg.  There are always new people and many of the same guests at the hotel and alot of them have different stories to tell.  Some customers though are some of the rudest, and weirdest people I've seen in my life, so that will be the entertaining part about my blog.
